What happen if a person do not take a shower for six weeks

If you ever tried going without a shower for three days? An experiment is being done....to see how a average normal person would react to going without a shower for at least three day.. straight.

I believe most folks could handle not having a shower for three days straight, but I would think that they would feel a bit lousy after six weeks. In a worse case scenario, you could always go skinny dipping if the water was warm enough and bring a bar of soap along.

I'm sure it can be done, but it is going to be very unpleasant for the person and any around them. Just the natural oil on the skin and in one's hair is going to make them feel dirty after that length of time.

I think after 6 weeks the accumulated dirt and skin oil will be a haven for bacteria and fungi. When these organisms get going no one would want to go near you for the stench - yuck!

I think after not bathing for six weeks, you will develop rashes, infections and other foul grossness on parts of your body. If your a menstruating woman, not showering could adversely affect your reproductive system. Causing more than a yeast infection, let's think UTI, a blood infection and some other unimaginable infection down there. For a man, you could develop something equally gross. The hair on your head may be prone to falling out as the follicles are now clogged with dirty, you will develop pimples/acne and blackheads all over your face.

I think the key would be the answer to these 2 questions first:

Where in the world would the person be?  Very different scenario between cold, dry areas and hot, humid climates, right?

How active is the person?  Sweating a lot? Sedentary?  Big difference, eh?

eeeks. More than the person being stinky and filthy, I would pity the people around him. a lazy loner out of his mind would dare not take a shower for 6 weeks!!

my first thought was of what is most deffinately NOT going to happen if you go 6 weeks w/ a shower!

    A) your not gona get the date w/ the hot chick in the cubicle next door

    B) your not gona get the date with the fuuny looking lady that brings pictures of her cats to wok iether

    C) the night out with the boys,... not so much after day 5 or 6

    D) your dog has better sence than to hang out with you after week 2 or 3,... and you think HE'S nasty because he licks his butt!?

I've read from a magazine, there is a tribe in Africa wherein women do not bathe for months. It is encouraged by men because they love the smell. It all depends in the culture. But here in the city? With all the pollution and crowd, it might be difficult, yet possible. I myself couldn't imagine not taking a shower for even just a couple of days straight. It'll make me feel so itchy all over.

Oh, and I would get a clean shirt to last me the week too smile
My parents bathed at the same intervals too, don't remember them stinking!

I had a roommate freshman year of college who would go anywhere to 4 - 6 weeks without showering, and he was overweight.  It was disgusting.  The reason he would not shower was that he was so overweight he wasn't able to fit into the small space saving shower stalls that we were given.  Either way, it was not a pretty sight, or even better yet smell.  My other roommate and I would bleach the floor and clean the whole dorm every week to try and get rid of his odor, but it would not happen.  We even got to the point where we would spray him with febreeze, cologne, or any scented spray we could find when he was asleep or not paying attention.  It was terrible, he smelled terrible, and it was very unhealthy for everyone.

From what I could tell he didn't grow any bacteria on the outside, but I know it smelled so bad that the whole floor smelled.  He did have a bad case of foot odor as well considering he did not wear socks with his shoes and he wore slippers everywhere.  Also, he did not own a toothbrush from what my roommate and I could tell, we never saw him brush his teeth, nor did we ever see his toothbrush in the room.  Overall, worst college roommate possible.

How much you want to bet that his teeth were whiter than the ones on a crest white strips commercial though? Seriously, the ones with the whitest teeth/fewest tooth problems are the ones who've never gotten into the habit of using toothpaste.

I think people that live in poverty may go without showering for months. I believe it is most likely smelly for the person and others they are surrounded by. I remeber a time when I had the flu I did not shower for 5 days.....

Six Weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! well for me taking a shower everyday is as important as is brushing your teeth daily. So I personally feel that if a person is not having a shower for a stretch of six weeks he is the best organism for parasites.

  26. myi4u profile image60
    myi4uposted 12 years ago

I honestly cannot imagine doing that. I take shower twice a day, even during winter and even when I was ill.

I personally do not think it as a problem especially people who are less fortunate and do not have access to clean water. Other than that, they will just stink!

In answer to your question, I remember reading an article and watching a documentary on this exact thing!

Nicky Taylor, a British documentary maker undertook this challenge as part of a scientific/social experiment.

Nicky undertook this experiment after finding herself shocked that British people spend a whopping 10.5 billion each year on grooming products as well as an estimated £2000 on beauty products. She was also shocked at the number of chemicals in the beauty products that she had been using on a daily basis.

Could there be negative effects on health?

At the end of the six weeks Nicky reported that her skin looked better and brighter than ever. She no longer uses lots of facial products.

She also said that she felt healthy and happy within her self.

Bacterial swabs were taken from areas of the body before and after the experiment. Although bacteria had increased, it still remained at a safe level.

The downside came mainly from the social aspect. She felt self conscious in public and embarrassed by her appearance when compared to other people. She even canceled going to a friends wedding!

Although it is widely reported that the hair begin to clean itself, the six week experiment lead to greasy, smelly, dirty hair.

Not brushing her teeth also meant she needed her first filling!

If you research Nicky Taylor and her experiment, you my find the documentary and there are also articles online.

    Hope this helped!

I have heard of a mother whose child had very bad eczema was told not to bath the child for a long period of time and the eczema improved. I think we wash out all the natural oils in our skin and hair. I guess its about finding a balance.

I imagine if you didn't bathe, then you would begin to smell of many different odors, sweat being the main one. Your body excretes moisture at all times, and if you don't get rid of it, then you will indeed smell like BO.

In the military during field training activity, it was typical to go 7-9 days without a shower.  However, it was always a nasty experience. You could go longer, but who'd want to if you had the choice. Also, at some point you must be concerned about your hygiene for your health sake.  Consider this, after 5 days without a wash, who's going to want to stand next to you?  To directly answer your question... At the 6 week point, your body adapts to the funk and others stay away!

  37. clintonb profile image61
    clintonbposted 12 years ago

It all depends on the geography they are located in. In colder places you don't require a bath even for weeks because u wont precipitate. The sweat goes out from your body in other way, so you feel fresh all the time. But the places like hot regions like India and parts of asia people have to bathe at-least twice a day to keep them comfortable between every one.

Well, I would hope a person who didn't shower for 6 weeks was a resident in a highly urban city.  That way their smell would just blend in with the rest of the city.  It would be advisable to spend some time in highly populated parks and near buses with large plumes of diesel fumes.  Please stay away from any enclosed spaces like offices, restaurants, coffee shops and libraries.

I did forget to ask though..... Would this person be allowed to wear patchouli?  If so, this person is probably a hipster, drinking coffee at Starbucks listening to cool, indie acoustical music.

Historically many people would go through the entire winter without a shower. Don't hold me to this, but I have heard that cologne was invented to mask body odors of people who went months without a bath.

All i know is that I am not around one of those people that have gone that long without a show.
