Racism In The work Place:
78Racism in the work place or should l say amongst ourselves
We spend most of our time at work rather than being in our homes,
We interact with our co-workers for six to seven hours a day, sometimes more than our families members.
We work side by side, daily on the units white black, Nationality from all over this earth,
Russian Haitian, American, even the Caribbean not forgetting the South African, and the Mexican, My facility consist of about 500-600 workers, ranging from Personnel to the doorman.
Racism is installed in most of the workers. It's in the workplace, they tried to denied it, but everyone can clearly see and it's mostly display during lunch hour,
Everyday, especially in the Cafeteria, you just have to observed your co-workers, The way in which their separated themselves in groups, Each nationality group off, according to they race, l used to think that it was because of the language barrier but over the years on the job l got to found out that it wasn't so
I observed this on a daily basis and my observation,
Why the human race believed that it's necessary to single out each other?" Race, Education or how high is your degree, a man is a man and should not be measure by the color of his skin, but his/her contribution in society should matters,
Yet, on the unit we work supposedly we work as a team-but during the lunch break some of the workers feel that they are superior to each other. As you walk into the cafeteria, you can feel the ice cold shoulders coming from separated tables, making you feel inferior. to each other. They place label on the table "RESERVED' HOW OBSURD.!
From the DNS Administrator to the office workers, they feel that their jobs are more important than the Blue Collars Workers, "But money is money no matter how you made it or how small. But once again, "It's the Slave Mentality in the whole,
Who came up with the rules, that you are not good enough to eat at your table? or associated yourselves with the staff?
Some might probably say "They have rights! Right to choose "Right to decided whom they associated themselves with.
What is wrong is when you bring your racist self to the work-place or displayed it on the street. I think you better off being discreet.
We you always have to think of us as simple Peasant" oh! how l detested they Slave Mentality, or should l say they upbringing.
An ignorant society judges each other because you are not of Royalty,
Yet on the other hand you and many more like us, is responsible for they lively hood,
Without our contribution and our hard work and sweat, they wouldn't be where they are today,
We deserved respect, from each other without looking at the color of each other skin
Sherrie J, A worker at the facility had this to say: "Based on my opinion l think racism is in my workplace, For example with the resident whenever, a Russian resident comes to the facility The Russian Social Worker always visit them more often and make sure that they got everything in their rooms including the flat screen television, phone, etc, but when a resident of a difference race and have that same Social Worker they response to the resident is not the same, The Russian patients gets.the Royal treatment, and the other races gets the treatment of Peasant, Everyone d be treated with respect not-only for some and not the other.
Equal Rights Addendum applies to all, and such be abide here in this facility, and the sign Equal opportunity employer, in the lobby should be reviewed, by the personnel,
People where not born with hatred in their hearts,
They was either taught at an early age, or through the media, and mostly in the home,
A study was done where a group of toddlers was put in a room together toddlers of all races and was observed though a window, the toddlers interact with each other without a care in world of hatred in their hearts,
Now another study was done with some adults, they was also put in a room and was observed through a window people from all races, immediately upon entering the room, the adults started yo group off by themselves or pairs according to their race,
It a human mentality issued and being judgemental and thinking of themselves as better than the other person.
The people in the study demonstrated ignorance and weakness, without each other a chance to mingle. Instead of looking at each other aknin, "Stick me with a pin , l bleed what colour is the blood? red that only goes to show that we are no different from each other, just men and women in different shades of color.
Do you feel uncomfortable sitting, beside that person on the bus or train,
even in a slow moving lane, have you ever wonder, what they think of you?
You're not the trusting kind, you vow not to let anyone, make you feel less than human
because of they lack of education,
Or they slave mentally upbringing, you do as l say, not as l do, but in today society, we will
surely sued. You seem like a person who likes being alone, who is afraid of being in the circle of life, without an exit, or no place to roam.
Do your head spin?, Do your heart beat fast?, Do you want to get away? from all this rat race,
Daily tribulation, contribute to a self destructive Nation, ,when man decides that he is better than you, and view you as a waste, taking up his space,
This land do not belongs to you! or me, we are just here on borrowed time,
so try to get along with the traitors and haters, and most of all your neighbors,,

I don't think that the 'world' is changing, there has always been war, there always will be.
But i do think that SOME people are changing. Some people that realize the hate around them, and so they choose to change and be more appreciative of others.
If one person has such a realization and decides to change, then perhaps this will influnence others to follow in their foot-steps.
Maybe the world could change if we had answers to the questions that no-one can answer?
This was heartfelt truth. I enjoyed reading it. We think of these things but seldom voice our feelings. Some people come by racism very easily from their environment, people around them. Some racists have a knack for it. Some racists really work hard at it. We all came from the same mold but if we didn't, it shouldn't matter. We are our brother's keeper- and our sister's too!
I just dont think any of this matters. lets all just live our lives and if others dont like you, stay out of their way. there are too many "cultures" that americans are forced to understand so we arent called racists. why do you come into our country and try to make us care about the culture you have? there are many many countries in europe and africa... they'll understand you better, stay there.
Moi, thats fair to say, but i have to disagree. I'm south korean on the outside of my appearance but on the inside my truth is: i was adopted by an australian family who couldnt conceive children and i was brought to australia when i was four months old. Technically a baby nonetheless right? And although i stay out of people's way and ignore their torments and nasty words about my asian looks, people still try anyway. No matter how much you stay away from them, they won't stay away seriously. There are seriously some nasty people in the world who have no right to say such things or mimic asian words when honestly i do not even know my asian language because im adopted and im australian on the inside. Celebs are adopting children everywhere now and so many people out there still do not understand how adoption works and that without looking into the inside first, they immediately think im a straight out asian.? Im australian 100% and if people werent so nasty, they would realise that there are actually adopted kids out there who are of different colour but they are obviously australian on the inside. The main point aswell is that Australia compared to other countries has been named the multi-cultural country out of all countries. That is why racism in australia is such a huge issue because of this knowledge. Obviously, there will always be racism but i think thats why Australia compared to america, is made such a bigger issue about racism when it is supposed to be classed as a multicultural landmark. Its not only the people who come into australia who are affected, its anyone of a different colour. There are so many groups of different kinds of people with different colours. You cant really define anyone. Does that mean im an aussie- asian? To be honest, i dont even really like asian food, doesnt that say something? I would rather a good burger because i was brought up on that. Soon we will all be the same colour because everyone is mixing with other cultures everywhere. I think for everyone to understand everyone better, especially within australia, people need to accept, but of course at this moment, not everyone will but when everything is eventually the same colour, everyone will have no choice. No one can stop people from mixing in with everyone else these days. Even teenagers are having children with someone of a different colour. I see the world that way. But seriously, you cannot just stay out of people's way when they want to be racist to you. I've found they actually come to you, and they dont stop. If they knew me on the inside first, they wouldnt be picking on me like im just an asian at first view. Racism is horrible and i have a family of blue eyes and blonde hair. Seriously, its not just racism given to people who come from overseas and speak another language and are called foreigners. It is everyone who is of different colour. Even me.
Racism is ignorance.
They just don't know.
Respect
I clicked with that - takes me right back to 1975 - I was the new girl in school - on the playground the black girls were playing double dutch rope - the white girls were playing single old boring jump rope - I asked the girls if they could teach me to do the double dutch. Was so excited! I was quickly learning and having a blast - while waiting in line for my next turn - a white girl came up and pushed me so hard I flew face first into the pavement. Chipped my front tooth, bloodied both elbows and knees - she told me why. I was SO confused - I was just a kid playing with my friends!
Thanks for bringing this point home. Good work and wonderful piece. Lovely
Something else is at work here, and it is called rankism. I just found out about this, and it is behind
workplace mobbing, bullying, gossip, back-biting, etc.
Anybody can be subjected to rankism.
I agree with you when saying this group doesn't get along with that group. Iam a native american born of the Oglala lakota "tribe" and have experienced racism from both CAUCASIAN peoples, and AFRICAN "AMERICAN" peoples in the work place. It's funny because I was asked to "party" at times by the black people, and asked if I was on "state assistance" by the white people. I have worked my entire life, NOT BY CHOICE, but because of the "disciplined" upbringing my mother (the school teacher), and father (the retired police officer) instilled in me. Racism will never diminish because of the fact that (in my own opinion.) you can never go back and tell the east coast natives "Im sorry I tricked ya into giving me this land over a few trinkets, Im sorry for killing hundreds of natives let alone stealing alot of africans an using them as slaves, Im sorry for taking all this land that was CREATOR GIVEN an putting you guys on areas' that I woould rather CRAP on, Im sorry for freeing the slaves but turning around ON THE EXACT SAME DAY an having 38 native "american" males hanged, Im sorry for using your people under the guise of "oh let freedom ring" an putting them against other peoples, Im sorry I made black people sit in areas' that I never would, Im sorry that I tried to decrease your bloodline by raping your women, taking the very innocence that the CREATOR gave to them, Im sorry for making women an children an the elderly walk from one side of the land we stole to the other side an murdering them when they stepped outside the area I set aside for them like they were cattle, Im sorry for letting outsiders' (French/English) bring fire water onto the land we stole from you, Im sorry for enslaving all peoples of a color not of my own, Im sorry, Im sorry, Im sorry.. " As a native american it is, AT TIMES, a little understandable how we could be so hated by every race, we were the only peoples to conquer the "american" flag. Why did we fight? To protect every fiber of our being.. Why were we attacked? Over GREED. It isn't because you have this or you have that it is simply because of th color of your skin REMEMBER THAT, don't be naive. Anyhoo my beautiful people of color have an awesome day!

great hub!! Although some of the things said did sound a bit familiar..But you made some really good points. I have experienced racism in the workplace, and i know other who have recently also. It sad, because i think the truth is that people will always be racist, because we're too different. Most of us will never understand our brothers culture, so most of us don't even bother to try. I think the best thing that we can do is be friendly to people of a different race to yourself, be warm and treat one person as you would treat the next.
